Choosing between the Junior’s and Youth* Soccer Program

Guidelines for parents of 2nd Graders

Starting with the Fall 2007 Soccer Season, TBAYS will be offering both the Junior’s Soccer Program and the Youth Soccer Program to 7 year old players.  You may choose the program most appropriate for your player.

TBAYS JUNIORS

-         Plays on Saturday Morning at the same time each week.

-         Does not have mid-week practice sessions

-         Plays on small grids with ‘pugg’ size goals in games where scores are not kept.

-         Works primarily on basic ball handling skills for young players

-         Players register and new teams are formed in each of the fall and spring seasons

TBAYS YOUTH SOCCER

-         Plays 1 or 2 games with 2 20 minute halves each Saturday at varying times.

-         Has one mid-week practice session each week beginning a couple of weeks before the season starts and continuing to season end.

-         Plays on official U8 size fields with regular goals in games where the scores are kept and recorded.

-         Works on both individual ball handling skills and basic team strategy.

-         Teams are formed for the full year (fall and spring) although players may register for full year, fall, or spring.  Full year players remain on the same team for both seasons.

If your player has been in the Junior’s program for a couple of years, he may be ready to move on the Youth program.  If she is new or relatively new to soccer then the Junior’s program may be the better choice.

*The Youth program is an age-based, rather than a grade-based program.  Grade is not a factor in determining U age.  In order to play on a U8 team, your player must be UNDER the age of 8 on August 1st 2007.  She then remains U8 for the entire year until the following August, even if she turns 8 on Aug. 2nd.  If your player turns 8 on or before Aug. 1, he is U9 and will be placed on a U9/10 team.
