Suttons Bay, Michigan.

Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer Partners with Suttons Bay Elementary  the winter months in Northern Michigan can pose great challenges to keep kids active and engaged. This January 2019 Suttons Bay Elementary and Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer partnered to introduce new educational soccer based programing at Suttons Bay elementary. Guided by Michigan’s K-12 Educational curriculum standards, TBAYS coaches spent two weeks in Kindergarten through fifth grade classes introducing students to the fundamentals of soccer.

As the sport of soccer continues to grow in the United States, we at TBAYS value its growth and our Northern Michigan communities. After reaching out to several northern Michigan schools, we were excited that Suttons Bay Elementary provided us the opportunity to take our love and knowledge for the game of soccer from the field to the classroom” said Jason Smith the Technical Director with Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer.

TBAYS Coaches worked with Suttons Bay Elementary Counselor, Rachel Fournier, to develop lesson plans which were guided by educational standards set by the state, as well as the age based curriculum set by United States Soccer Federation.

Feedback from Suttons Bay Staff and students has been extremely positive and planning has already begun for TBAYS to come back in the Spring.  “As a Northstorm Alum and a Suttons Bay Employee, it is exciting to see the growth of soccer in our region and how much TBAYS has contributed.  I think it’s awesome they are reaching out to the community to volunteer their time and expertise to teach soccer to our students. The kids have loved having professional coaches work with them during their PE classes,” said Tony Mosqueda , Interventionist, Suttons Bay Public Schools.

Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer  is a 501(c) 3Non-profit which has been offering Recreational and Premier soccer to Northern Michigan for over 20 years.
